NEJ Stevenson's Revolver Design

Posted by NEJ Stevenson on 17th June 2010.

The Revolver table straddles the wide gulf between furniture and art.

If furniture is not art because it offers a practical solution, then the unique articulation of this table, which sees it transform into a sculpture, confuses the issue. Is it a table that becomes art, or a piece of sculpture that can become a table?

At NEJ Stevenson crafting beautiful bespoke furniture for people the world over is something we have been doing for over 25 years. Royal Families, entrepreneurs, captains of industry, but always for discerning clientele who draw energy and satisfaction from the environments they inhabit.

So when we were asked to design a piece of furniture for the International Furniture Show, we chose to challenge the normal conventions of traditional furniture appearance by creating something totally unique.

When you consider how much time a piece of furniture is actually used for its core purpose, you would conclude that many pieces spend a great deal of time sitting quietly and forlornly doing very little. Therefore, the opportunity to quickly change this piece into a dramatic subject for conversation seemed a great idea.

Unrestricted by the requirements of a brief we were able to indulge our passion for great contemporary design, the purity of clean lines, simple curves and striking colours”. The result of our design process was…‘REVOLVER’.

Having been designed in two distinctly contrasting styles which can be further modified using different timbers and colours, or uniquely customised to suit our clients needs, these designs, and the development of new pieces will be sold in strictly limited numbers.
