![]() Thirlwall Associates Nominated for Award Posted by Thirlwall Associates on 27th May 2010.
ProjectBook member Claire Thirlwall of Thirlwall Associates was the Landscape Architect for this project which was designed to reduce flood risk in the area whilst creating 600 metres of new river channel. The River Pinn Scheme was one of eight commendations awarded at the ceremony on 20th May 2010. Claire was employed by the Environment Agency and worked with London Borough of Harrow to design the scheme as part of the overall strategy to reduce flood risk in the Borough. The project was given a special mention in the introduction to the Awards as the judges recognised the love and care that had gone into the scheme. The Award was accepted on behalf of the project team by Tony Donetti, Team Leader of London Borough of Harrow's Contracts and Drainage Team. The work was completed over the summer of 2006 and the area now attracts wildlife including herons and pied wagtails. Areas of native tree planting were included in the design and these are now becoming well established. The scheme is in the grounds of the Harrow Arts Centre which was formerly The Commercial Travellers School. Charles Dickens was one of the subscribers who raised funds for the original school which was opened by Prince Albert in 1855.
