![]() Building Conservation: Heritage Roofing NVQ3 pilot update Posted by James Mott on 10th March 2011. This week my visit coincided with a visit from Chris Wood and John Edwards from English Heritage. We spent a pleasant few hours around the SCRT’s classroom table, discussing heritage issues and the need for more education and training for the upcoming generation of heritage roofers. Following the visit, Chris Wood and John Edwards from English Heritage made this endorsement: “We were very pleased to observe the high quality training at the South Coast Roof Training centre. Initiatives such as this are desperately needed, and we hope more roofers will attend and similar training be provided in other parts of the country” Supporters I also discovered that there are many companies who are supporting this initiative, not just with words, but by supplying the centre with their valuable products. The following manufactures and suppliers have donated: Keymer Tiles Ltd - traditional tiles and fittings Singleton Birch Ltd - lime putty Burlington Slate Ltd - random slates W L West & Sons Ltd - cleft laths Mike Wye & Associates Ltd - goat hair Sandtoft Roof Tiles Ltd - Goxhill tiles John Brash & Co Ltd - battens and laths Steady Progress It was clear to see that the students are making good progress with their practical skills, which was acknowledged by Richard Jordan the course tutor. Here is a collage of some of the work they have produced to date.
