![]() Tuxford Building Conservation Fair Posted by James Mott on 12th May 2011. ![]() Last weekend I took the opportunity to attend the building conservation fair hosted at Tuxford windmill (east midlands).
This initiative was started by county councillor John Hempsall and supported by heritage groups including SPAB, English Heritage, EMCBE and HeritageHUB.
The event was very well attended by heritage professionals and the public, with a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. There were nearly 30 exhibiters and craftsmen demonstrating traditional craft skills from roofing to slaking lime, plasterwork to gauged brickwork. The event organisers and exhibiters all hailed the fair as a great success and hopefully we’ll see more of these much needed initiatives in the future.
These events are an invaluable opportunity to raise awareness of traditional craft skills and offer the chance for members of the public to meet local craftsmen for themselves and learn how to care for their older properties. A short video of the day ...
