About Us

The origins of the Southern Fellowship of Woodworkers can be traced back 17 years when Peter Guyett founded the Hampshire branch of the Woodworker Fellowship. Expansion soon ensued with the wider area of membership reflected in the revised name of Berkshire Hampshire and Surrey Fellowship of Woodworkers. With members applying from even further afield, the current title was adopted in 2007.

There are now 50 members and new members, of all levels of experience, are always very welcome. We are mostly serious amateurs although we have a few professional woodworkers as members

Our aims are to foster an environment where members can exchange their views and experiences on all aspects of woodwork and to promote these aims via organised events.

Events

The programme of events includes regular monthly meetings held throughout the year with the exception of December.

From September to April on the fourth Thursday of each month we hold an indoor meeting at: -

The Mytchett Centre, 140 Mytchett Road, Camberley, Surrey, GU16 6AA.

Guest speakers give talks and demonstrations. Notable speakers have included Robert Ingham; Martin Grierson; Richard Williams; Andrew Crawford; Phillip Koomen; Matthew Burt; Ramon Weston; James Mursell; John Lloyd; Richard Elderton; over the last year, the speakers have included James Ryan on the Barnsley Workshop and their philosophy, Mark Ripley on his furniture and design processes, Chris Hyde, the Head of the Ryecotewood Furniture Centre who gave a demonstration on parquetry and marquetry. At one or two meetings each year members present their projects or bring along their latest gadgets or tools.

From May to September we organise monthly visits to exhibitions, museums, cabinet makers workshops, timber merchants or tool suppliers. The workshop visits are to well known professionals or to the workshops of members of Fellowship.
