Don Barker FWCB is a Master Blacksmith with 40 years experience in the restoration and repair of heritage ironwork. Following a 200 year old family tradition of blacksmithing, his forge is based in York, England. He is the Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, London and is the first working smith to hold this position for over 200 years.
His forge has an enviable reputation for quality and customer care with the majority of projects arising from word of mouth recommendations. He has completed work worth over £200,000 for Westminster Abbey, lighting for the OBE Chapel at St Paul’s Cathedral, bronze lamps and complex bronze handrailing for the Queen Mother’s Monument on The Mall, the fifteen feet high stainless steel Millennium Gates for Rowntree Park, York (having won the design competition) and numerous other prestigious and high profile commissions for prominent clients and national bodies.
Don has also featured in several television programmes demonstrating his skills as a blacksmith and his desire to pass on those skills to the next generation.
He also undertakes condition reports and the preparation of method statements for clients embarking on restoration projects and independent expert witness reports for court proceedings.
